today for open lab i worked on the dog food project. I was just working with angel and maya to figure out how to make the stepper motor work with the raspberry pi. we had to figure out how to use the stepper motor friver that was just given to us and what all the wires on the motor were. then we were trying to see where to plug in the wires on the raspberry pi's GPIO pins

PM-Lupe-1hr 30min-Robot Club: Improvements

Today is the first time that we worked on our robot since the competition. We have a few ideas on how to make our robot better.

Cindy - PM - 1 HR - Air Pollution Senssor

Today in open lab, I did some research on air pollution, specifically, the chemicals of NH3, NO2, and CO. I found that:
  • 1% of the total nitrogen dioxide in cities is formed naturally in the atmosphere by lightning and some is produced by plants, soil and water. The major source of nitrogen dioxide is the burning of fossil fuels: coal, oil and gas. Other sources are:
  • Motor vehicle exhaust (about 80%) 
  • Petrol and metal refining, electricity generation from coal-fired power stations, other manufacturing industries and food processing.
  • Effects of heavy inhaling of NO2:
  • Respiratory, eye, and skin irritation
  • Inflames the lining of the lungs, and it can reduce immunity to lung infections. This can cause problems such as wheezing, coughing, colds, flu and bronchitis.

  • CO is found in fumes produced any time you burn fuel in cars or trucks, small engines, stoves, lanterns, grills, fireplaces, gas ranges, or furnaces. CO can build up indoors and poison people and animals who breathe it.

Next time in open lab, I will work on connecting the sensor to wifi automatically instead of manually, through my computer.

AM - Open Lab - Rikzin - Hydro Cars

For today's open lab I was able to solder the new connection on to the wire that was connecting the battery with the green board. At first, the soldering iron melted the plastic around the connector and it off put the bits of metal that were supposed to connect the two wires together. We solved this problem by forcing the connection and in time it straightened out. For the second connection, I was much more careful not to melt anything that wasn't meant to be melted.

- the fans still doesn't fit into the base after cutting --> have to trim away the edges

Today, we first did the explore Vision slides. We have 6 slides so we are trying to combine 1 of the slides to the other. At the end we did the robot project. We are working on the new car. We are storing what need too.
